Flood modelling for small and medium towns in Gujarat

Cities all around the world are facing the increasing impacts of urban flooding. As cities expand, more and more people will live in urban areas and be exposed to urban floods. Climate change further aggravates the risk of urban floods with increased frequency and intensity of rainfall (IPCC, 2021). One of the sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations is to make cities “inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” (United Nations, 2022).

To understand the extent of floods and to develop an adaptation and mitigation strategy, it is important to understand the exposure due to floods. This DRP, therefore, aims to develop a 2D flood model to estimate the inundation due to flooding. We especially want to take up small and medium towns in Gujarat that have shown intensive flooding in recent years.
