Synthesis of Public Private Partnership Projects undertaken by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation
The recent report of India Infrastructure Report 2024 highlighted that despite urgent need to upgrade urban infrastructure, the adoption of public private partnership model – which holds the potential to mobilize resources and efficiencies from private sector, by the urban local bodies is not promising. It is observed that often few urban local bodies, mostly from megacities, are taking the lead the adoption of PPPs. It is necessary to understand and document how these urban local bodies, which are on the forefront, have treaded the path of public private partnerships. This analysis would be helpful for the practitioners and researchers to decipher how an urban local body trades the path of PPPs, with the spirit of caution and experimentation, and then attempts to mainstream it. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has been adopting public private partnership (PPP) for delivery of various services. These PPP initiatives span various sectors like municipal solid waste management, healthcare, parking and so on. This Directed Research Study aims to consolidate the existing knowledge on PPPs projects undertaken by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and analyze the information from the perspectives like number of PPP projects, sector in which PPP project is adopted, year of award, status of PPP project and so on.
