Evaluation of factors affecting operational quality of signalized urban intersections in Ahmedabad
Urban road Intersections are one of the locations which is most vulnerable to congestion, delay and accidents due to multi
directional high vehicular volumes and different class of vehicles using same infrastructure. Operational quality of urban
intersections is highly affected by geometry of the intersections and type of control exists at intersections.
This research is an attempt to establish most crucial factors which affects the Level of Service (operational quality) of an
intersection as per Indian guidelines (IRC and Indo HCM). Volume of the vehicles approaching intersection, geometry and
capacity of intersection and signal timings are a few of the factors which can influence the operational efficiency of
signalized intersection the most. This research will collect and analyse data to establish relation between intersection
geometry, signal timing and level of service for selected intersection within the city of Ahmedabad.
