Active Bending Structures

This project explores the concept of active bending structures, focusing on creating a physical model that demonstrates the principles of bending-active form-finding. Active bending structures utilize the elastic deformation of flexible materials to achieve lightweight, self-supporting shapes. Inspired by pioneers like Frei Otto, we began with EX-1, studying bending-active principles and analyzing precedents. In EX-2, we conducted form-finding experiments using cane sticks and digital simulations, iterating designs to optimize curvature and stability. After finalizing the form, we constructed a single prototype, demonstrating the potential of active bending in architectural applications.
