The HVAC Lab was an immersive journey into the dynamic world of indoor climate control, blending theory with real world experimentation. We began by decoding the fundamentals refrigeration and psychrometric cycles, fan dynamics, and airtightness testing through blower doors while monitoring indoor air quality via particulate matter sensors. This hands-on phase culminated in the installation and evaluation of Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilators (HRV/ERV), where we followed industry protocols to test real-time performance. The second half of the semester shifted into the digital domain, where we simulated advanced HVAC systems Packaged DX, air and water-cooled VAVs, and cutting-edge VRFs for a G+2 office building tailored to a chosen climate. These simulations unlocked deep insights into energy use, thermal comfort, system efficiency, and unmet load hours, revealing how smart HVAC design can shape the sustainability and comfort of future-ready buildings.
