CFP004

UAR20121

The first semester focused on developing drawing and representation skills. Continuing in a similar vein, during the second semester, the CFP Studio component focuses on building analytical abilities. Exercises like mapping and data representation engage with on-ground reality, requiring that the students develop their ability to observe, collect data and analyse it, as well as communicate and represent it meaningfully; building elements and materials allows for initial familiarization with these, theoretically as well as through observation of built spaces around; while making and testing structures uses hands-on experience to enable conceptual understanding. Technical drawing II builds on the skills imbibed initially and develops them towards further complexity. All the exercises find their culmination in tackling a design problem, which brings together the skills and abilities while introducing the students for the first time to the design process. These skills will be put to use during L2 studios, and will be discussed in their relevance to the professional practice that designers, architects and urban planners engage in.

The four small zoomed in views on the left side of the sheet represents the average traffic and human activity in that locality during mornings and evenings.

The small detailed view drafted on the right hand side of the sheet inside the circle represents the bottom junction of a sliding window and it helps to understand the materials as well as the arrangement of the sliding windows in detail.

The drawing on the right hand side of the sheet is an exploded view of the final model and the arrows besides the sticks in that drawing represent the direction of force that will be experienced by these sticks when experiencing a weight.

This sheet discusses the reasons of failures of the model and the improvements in the design that can be made such that the model can bear more weight than before.

The two drawings on the right side of the sheet have small red colored numbered arrows in each of them which represents the views and the pictures alongside them are the on site photographs of that specific view.

The sheet consists of sections and elevations of the given site. The bottom two drawings are hand-rendered presentation drawings. By the play of light and shadow they try to depict how the spaces can actually be used.

The sheet contains all the processes and rough sketches which one has to go through to come up with a final idea or design for the model which is present in the bottom right of the sheet.

The sheet follows a very dull yellow ochre color scheme. The gradient of this color is used in plans to depict and differentiate various contour levels upon which the plan of the proposed site is placed.

The six different compositions present in the six different sheets have four cubes, four cuboids and four cylinder in each of them. These shapes are either arranged or subtracted differently in each of the sheets.

The composition on the left side of the sheet is a culmination of all the activities. Different locations in the composition show different kind of spaces like a personal garden, a reading room and a factory.
