CFP004

UAR20149

The first semester focused on developing drawing and representation skills. Continuing in a similar vein, during the second semester, the CFP Studio component focuses on building analytical abilities. Exercises like mapping and data representation engage with on-ground reality, requiring that the students develop their ability to observe, collect data and analyse it, as well as communicate and represent it meaningfully; building elements and materials allows for initial familiarization with these, theoretically as well as through observation of built spaces around; while making and testing structures uses hands-on experience to enable conceptual understanding. Technical drawing II builds on the skills imbibed initially and develops them towards further complexity. All the exercises find their culmination in tackling a design problem, which brings together the skills and abilities while introducing the students for the first time to the design process. These skills will be put to use during L2 studios, and will be discussed in their relevance to the professional practice that designers, architects and urban planners engage in.

This image features the drafted plan of my apartment. It was drawn after the preparation of soft-line drawings.

This sheet features drafted sections that have been cut through the plan, shown in the previous image. The flags of the same have been marked in the plan.

This exploded isometric wall section has been cut through sliding doors that lead into a balcony. The section flags of this have also been marked in the plan.

This image contains the same wall in a section format, along with the building elements and materials that have been used to construct it.

This image contains the process behind the design "Palayanam" which is a shelter designed for a yoga practitioner in Jaisalmer.

The final sheets of the design Palayanam have been presented here. They have been drafted and rendered using pencil as a medium.

This sheet contains the conceptual design sketches for a cube structure designed to bear 25 kg of load.

The physical model of the cube has been created using reed sticks, pins and strings in accordance with the design sketches and explorations.

This sheet contains a map of my neighbourhood, made using mixed media. The base sketch was done with microns and pencils while the rendering was accomplished using Adobe Photoshop.

These final sketches have been made in a step by step format: from a complete assemblage of cubes, cuboids and cylinders, to an assemblage of subtracted forms to a rendered sketch with context. Both zoomed-in (done in pencil) and zoomed-out views (done with water-soluble colour pencils and microns) have been shown here.
