CFP004

UAR20191

The first semester focused on developing drawing and representation skills. Continuing in a similar vein, during the second semester, the CFP Studio component focuses on building analytical abilities. Exercises like mapping and data representation engage with on-ground reality, requiring that the students develop their ability to observe, collect data and analyse it, as well as communicate and represent it meaningfully; building elements and materials allows for initial familiarization with these, theoretically as well as through observation of built spaces around; while making and testing structures uses hands-on experience to enable conceptual understanding. Technical drawing II builds on the skills imbibed initially and develops them towards further complexity. All the exercises find their culmination in tackling a design problem, which brings together the skills and abilities while introducing the students for the first time to the design process. These skills will be put to use during L2 studios, and will be discussed in their relevance to the professional practice that designers, architects and urban planners engage in.

The final map representation, cognitive map and base map of a busy neighbourhood in Rajkot, Gujarat. Autodesk sketchbook has been used to make the sketches that depict the studied morning activities.

Wall sections which helped in identifying building elements and materials.

On the left is a representation ground floor plan of a bungalow in Rajkot, Gujarat which has been digitally rendered using Autodesk Sketchbook. The plan conveys technical details that take into account scale and human anthropometry, and the representation drawing illustrates the characteristics and activities performed in each space.

A SketchUp model of a shelter- 'Prasantam Nilaya' designed for a yogi, by the Gadisar lake in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

The process behind designing a shelter for yogi that included site analysis, case study, activity and space analysis, adjacencies and layout diagrams.

On the left is the design intent and location of the shelter on the site placed under Babool tree, facing Gadisar lake. The right side shows the house plan in detail along with section lines.

The sections have been drafted on AutoCad using projection lines. A digital model of the shelter has also been made using SketchUp.
