Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

In this exercise, we were supposed to design a workshop for a craftsperson who makes different products from bamboo. While the sheet on the left shows the plan and a section, the sheet on the right shows the site plan, roof plan and two elevations. All these drawings have been drafted on AutoCAD.

The sheet on the top shows two sections drafted on AutoCAD. The other images are the pictures of the final model (1:50 scale) of the entire workshop.

The sheet on the top is a compilation of all the process sheets. It includes site analysis, bubble diagrams, study of the trees, etc. The other images are the pictures of the two process models that helped in the study of the site and the contours.

The sheets show the hand - drafted front, side and back elevation of the L.D. Institute of Indology, Ahmedabad. All the dimensions are in cm.

This exercise involved an educational trip to Bhuj, Gujarat. We learned about the different construction techniques and their applications, and made a booklet to document the same. The sheets on the top show the failures and the states of stress. The other images are the pictures of the model, which was mainly made using reed sticks and cotton threads.

After making the model and testing it, we made a report. It included the process of making the structure, identifying the errors in the model and rectifying them, etc. The sheets show all the pages from the report.

The sheet on the top is the hand - drafted drawing of the model (1:1 scale). All the dimensions are in mm. The other images are the pictures of the final model and the process model.
