Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

Analyzing the given site located in Nainital, a study of the natural vegetation and climate of the area (read from left to right).

Studying a bamboo craftsperson's anthropometry, finalising a site for the shelter to be placed and designing initial layouts (read from left to right).

Drafted drawings of the bamboo artisan's shelter at a 1:50 scale.

The site plan and view help understand the landscape and location of the shelter (middle). The drawings on the right describe the nature of the space.

The above are hand-drafted drawings of the Faculty Of Design building at CEPT University in Ahmedabad.

Drafted drawings that help a viewer understand the building better.

This project helped in exploring various permutations and combinations of metal and wood joineries. On the left are exploded joineries at a 1:1 scale. On the right is an exploded isometric view of the entire assemblage at a 1:2 scale.

An understanding of structures and the various forces that hold them together was done. The above sheet shows the process of making and testing a tower made of reed sticks and the conclusions drawn from the same.

The above models were made using several different types of boards and also waste materials of other projects. Thus enabling material efficiency and exploration.
