Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

Technical drawings of L. D. Institute of Indology were made while surveying and analyzing the building over the course of one month. These drawings were then used to make a sectional model showing the different elements and materials used in the make of the building.

Testing the structural limits of an inclined tower.

Joineries used in the final model and identifying the failures in the structure after testing.

Creating an assemblage out of wood and metal, while learning the different processes in woodworking and metalworking. Images on the left and right capture parts of the process followed while making the assemblage.

Documentation of the various learnings from the workshop held at Hunnarshala. From the making of mud bricks to massive rammed earth walls, we were able to gain insight into the various possibilities of building with earth over the 4 day workshop.

The beginning of our first design project was marked by studying the site and the user through various aspects as shown above. Based on this study, adjacency diagrams were charted to understand how the user would use the space.

The next stage involved finalizing a site and making the first drafts of the building. After various changes, the final layout was decided and fixed on site.

The final drawings of the workshop.

Various models were made to understand the space through volume.

Understanding forms and their interaction with light and shadow.
