Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

The wooden toy maker’s workshop located in Goa, is sited on the valley, raised on stilts, allowing the user to experience both- the flowing freshwater and the crashing sea waves. The curvilinear built form, assimilates the fluidity of the sea waves and also allows cool sea breeze to come in and channelizes the warm land breeze away from the built form.

The various sections through the built form display he details of the spaces inside.

The final and conceptual models at different scales help in a better understanding of the site and the built form.

On the left-hand side, we can see the final model and the right-hand side displays the exploded view of the SketchUp model.

The various joineries explored through the model are displayed through hand-drawn sketches.

An inclined structure was made using reed sticks. The design has a vertical load- bearing component, which takes the maximum weight, and also the structure is anchored to the base (made out of MDF).

The structure was tested by loading bricks on top, and the structure was able to take sufficient weight according to the requirements before failing. The structure failed as the component on the top surface buckled and got bent.

The slide displays the hand-drafted ground floor plan of a part of Faculty of Planning building.
