Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

The image is a compilation of the documentation done in Bhuj, as a part of the S14 exercise. The portrait belongs to Hemant bhai, the one who made the whole experience so memorable.

The above image is a collection of illustrations drawn on site to capture the information being taught through sketching as a medium

Tackling a design problem is an exercise that taught us how a designer goes through the process of designing something. The approach I took for this exercise is a problem- based design which started with research. My user was a bamboo craftsperson situated in Nainital.

Research was done to understand the site, climate, user, vernacular architecture, culture and materials.

The sheet shoes the progression of how the layouts of the built form developed.

The site plan of the workshop for a bamboo craftsperson situated in Nainital along with the design intent.

The final plan: the main idea was to play with angles in order to divide, circulate and distinguish between spaces. The angles guide the users and also create visual interest.

The sections of the built form show the roof details along with the placement of columns, walls and furniture.

The final model for the built form.

The sheet is a composition of assemblages in various perspectives with various subtractions, from the sketching exercise.
