Foundation Studio (II), within the CEPT Foundation Programme continues to build upon the skills acquired during the first semester, adding abilities to use digital media in representation; to make models; to understand the assembly of built form through its building elements, materials and structures; to be able to draft architectural and topographical drawings: and eventually leads to bringing the skills and abilities together to tackle a design problem.

The program of this module was to design a workplace for a wooden craftsperson on the cliff side of Goa.

The exercise focused on imbibing the skills of imagining, visualization, sensitivity towards climate and response to nature, technical drawing, representation skills, etc. The exercise was a culmination of all the learnings across both semesters. It gave us exposure to the basic process of design thinking.

This module helped in employing a basic understanding of states of stress and their behaviour.

The reasons for the failure of a structure and also the distribution of load and properties of different materials.

This exercise focuses on exploring the possibilities for properties of different types of materials and their different joinery.

We were able to carry out operations like cutting, drilling, bending, riveting, threading, screwing, and sanding/filing with metal and wood, using hand- and power tools at the workshop. At the end of it, we understood the composition and joinery of different materials.

This project developed an understanding of technical drawings and their orthographic projections.

The ability to measure and draw on a site and translate it into a technical drawing.

This was a fun exercise where we cultivated an understanding of various earth construction techniques.

It was a hands-on experience in building elements like foundation, plinth, arch, domes, etc. from various materials.
