After focusing on developing drawing and representation skills in first semester, during the second semester, the CFP Studio component focuses on building analytical abilities with exercises like mapping and data representation, buidling elements and materials, making and testing structures, technical drawing II and tackling a design problem. These skills will be put to use during L2 studios, and will be discussed in their relevance to the professional practice that designers, architects and urban planners engage in.

The slide shows the process behind transforming a thought into an imaginative space setting into a drawing of the imaginative setting. Certain attributes from the setting were selected and different iterations of these attributes were sketched out as a part of visualization.

The process sheet slowly leads towards the development of the final imaginative composition.

Manek Chowk has been a prominent part of the city since its inception (1400 A.D.) and is still breathing and thriving with a chaotic yet stable intersection of public places of commerce and ‘Pol’ housing. Learning about the various principles of spatial organization by observing pre-existing organized spaces helps one understand how the placement of spatial mass in a space is of prominence in affecting its experiential and perceptive qualities.

Estimating the cost of making a piece of chair, by visiting the site, connecting the whole process of making with the cost incurred at each stage while also including maintenance costs of equipments, transportation and labour cost.

Reflections of Soil is a compilation of the various skills of earthern construction learnt and executed at Sankalan workshop during the Bhuj Field Trip while connecting to existing implementations of these techniques.

The slide shows the process behind the cantilever plate model for testing, which includes conceptualization of a design, learning different types of joineries, drafting technical drawings of the design.

The slide includes the failure analysis after testing the first model, finding the problem and its causes and looking for a solution by revising the design and pictures of the revised model.

Making a model out of a definite amount of wood, metal sheet, pipe and rod provided in the workshop, learning to use the equipments and machines, exploring different joineries between the materials considering the strength and the load a joint can take.

The outcome of the slide is an understanding of the chemistry of colours by pixelating a photograph and finding out its colour scheme, making a moodboard for a certain word by using colours as means of expression. Finally, making a graphical composition of an artist's artwork to understand their use of colours, visual language and composition style.
