After focusing on developing drawing and representation skills in first semester, during the second semester, the CFP Studio component focuses on building analytical abilities with exercises like mapping and data representation, buidling elements and materials, making and testing structures, technical drawing II and tackling a design problem. These skills will be put to use during L2 studios, and will be discussed in their relevance to the professional practice that designers, architects and urban planners engage in.

The exercise taught me the different ordering principle and how to identify and apply them in our day to day lives.

For this exercise, we were allotted the area of Jamalpur flower and vegetable markets. As a unit we had to come up with a base map. Along with making the base map we had to observe the area around and come up with a topic to map about. The topic chosen here was Parking Spaces and Encroachment. The parking spots are represented by graphics of different vehicles and the heat map shows encroachment.

The primary focus of the exercise was to implement wood and metal joineries and learn in the process. The final outcome of materials used, joinery details and process of building was represented on SketchUp LayOut.

A trip to Bhuj taught us about materials and methods of construction. Construction for Rammed earth wall, CSEB Bricks, Adobe bricks, Wattle and Daube walls, Arches, Domes and much more was taught.

This exercise taught us about the different forces applied to the structure can cause different types of failures and how the forces can be directed properly to the ground without causing any breakage to the reed and thread structure.

Based on the writeup of Describing Setting (linked below), a view of the setting was to be created. This took identification of specific elements, taking references and creating an atmosphere through the painting.

By studying the works of Mr.Tyeb Mehta, I learned that his works have flat colours in the background, the subjects are coloured in hues, the human figures have a vague body structure except for feet and hands and there is no lighting, shadows in his paintings and the paintings are revolve around the idea of suffering. These factors were implemented into the collage and the composition for the artist.

This exercise taught mixing of primary poster colours (i.e. red, blue, yellow, white and black) and to achieve desired colours to fill in pixels of the chosen image. I also learnt relating colours to specific moods in this exercise.

A business or event of our choice was to be selected and studied and I choose the tea stall behind the south canteen. The cost incured to prepare tea, coffee, lemonjuice, poha, dabeli, vadapav and maskabun was calculated and an excel sheet and an infographic was made for the same.

For Digital Representation 2, perfume bottle made in Rhino and plan and section of Nandani, Gandhi Ashram made in AutoCad. In Fab Lab we learnt to laser cut and 3D print using the softwares we were taught to use.
