The CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

Preparation of base map as a group and sketches of religious places around Sidi Saiyed mosque and Lal Darwaza were used in the final sheet for mapping. The infographic sheet on the right is a visual depiction of the religious diversity within the site comparing them on the basis of scale, peak hours, etc.

Final assemblage shown on left comprised of designing the overall composition and joinery among the same and different materials such as wood, metal rod, metal pipe and metal sheet. Sketch-up drawings were prepared to understand the joineries and get a visual idea of the assemblage.

Understanding various forces and different joineries was the first step in the process of constructing a cantilever plate structure (left). The cantilever plate was then tested to analyse and rectify the failures.

Final imaginative drawing on the left was based on the write-up wirtten in ROWC. Various AI Iterations (right) were tried out using the imaginative drawing (left) as the basis.

Designing a game based on the process of Ganga aarti in Varanasi. Selected pages of the rule-book (right) depict the components, rules and mechanics of the game.
