The CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

Building Cantilever Plate using reed sticks had us dive deep into the building elements like columns, beams, lintel of any structure. The main challenge was to balance a 50x50x50 cm plate on a 5x5x30 cm column, relying solely on lashing techniques without glue.

Joining elements let us explore different types joineries for wood and metal. It also gave an understanding of how to plan the process of making, so that one can use the maximum material with minimum wastage possible.

Developing an ability to measure and draw on site and produce drafted technical drawings with an understanding of scale, proportion and details of various building elements.

Exploring different representation techniques that convey specific characteristics of a site.

Ability to imagine and translate text into drawing was developed through imaginary drawing.

Exploring numerous varieties of leaves found in Parimal Garden and representing them on collectively hand drawn map.

1:1 scale representation of the texture, colour and size (ascending order) using imprints of the leaves.

Learning to closely observe and understand the unnoticed details of a city.

Understanding the various stages of a design process from scratch to final product through Game design.

Ability to refine and present the final product which is engaging and visually appealing was learned.
