The Monsoon Semester of the CEPT Foundation Programme inculcates foundational design skills through sequential exercises focused on perfecting freehand and perspective drawing, visualizing and drawing complex compositions. Students learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and exploded views of complex objects; develop the skill of estimating sizes and begin to engage with anthropometrics. Ordering principles, colour theory, imaginative drawing and deciphering and interpreting styles help them develop more complex skills. Alongside, parallel exercises focus on describing objects and presenting their own work in writing, while guest speaker lectures offer exposure to other disciplines.

How Things Work- A domestic exhaust fan is vertically unfolded and drawn manually at a scale of 1:2 to incorporate all the parts.

Sketching- The upper part of the sheet shows freehand digital sketches while the sketches below the middle line were made on a cartridge sheet.

Freehand Drawing- All the forms, wireframes, renders and assemblages are made without using any drafting tools.

Subtracting Solids- The model development is drafted digitally with precision to be later printed, folded along the guidelines and built into a 3D model.

Deciphering and Interpreting Styles- In the left side of the sheet, the mindmap shows the keywords extracted from a detailed study on the architect describing his personality well. The right side of the sheet shows a bag, digitally sketched with elements inspired from the door lying next to it.

Technical Drawing- Different views of an assemblage of matchboxes are drawn manually as well as on AutoCAD.

Colour Theory- At the top, what you're looking at is an attempt at producing a pixelation, as vibrant as Ranveer Singh’s attire. The collage is based on a single word, confidence using the colour swatch that signifies the word. The assemblages are rendered using different colour schemes.

Gauging Sizes- One of the many variants of drafted drawings allows the representation of 3D objects into 2D drawings.

Digital Representation- The basics of different softwares like AutoCAD, Illustrator and InDesign are explored here.

Imaginative Drawing- This view is based on a concocted story of a street having a fictional space and fictional characters.
