The Monsoon Semester of the CEPT Foundation Programme inculcates foundational design skills through sequential exercises focused on perfecting freehand and perspective drawing, visualizing and drawing complex compositions. Students learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and exploded views of complex objects; develop the skill of estimating sizes and begin to engage with anthropometrics. Ordering principles, colour theory, imaginative drawing and deciphering and interpreting styles help them develop more complex skills. Alongside, parallel exercises focus on describing objects and presenting their own work in writing, while guest speaker lectures offer exposure to other disciplines.

3-D assemblages of subtracted solid figures are drawn in perspective and parallel views. These assemblages are also rendered using different techniques.

A heavy-duty tape dispenser was dismantled, and the parts were analysed. The exploded view of all the parts of the dispenser including the functions of all the individual parts were drafted.

This building is from a fantasy story about a mystical building that floats in the sea. Initial sketches of different views of the building are shown. the final representation was done digitally on Autodesk sketchbook using a variety of brushes and rendering techniques.

A poster and a collage were to be made with respect to the attributes that are related to a celebrity. And the personality is Charlie Chaplin in my case.

A picture of a door and its context was given. The design and the style of the door and its context was analysed, and a bag was designed with respect to the analysis of the door.

A series of exercises were done to understand the concept of colour theory, how different colours work together, how each colour is obtained and how different architects used(Geoffrey Bawa in this case).

Different rules and principles of composition were used to decode the major principles of compositions and underlying geometry of a building. These rules were also kept in mind while clicking photographs from the surroundings.

A few of the quick free hand sketches that were made during this semester.
