The Monsoon Semester of the CEPT Foundation Programme inculcates foundational design skills through sequential exercises focused on perfecting freehand and perspective drawing, visualizing and drawing complex compositions. Students learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and exploded views of complex objects; develop the skill of estimating sizes and begin to engage with anthropometrics. Ordering principles, colour theory, imaginative drawing and deciphering and interpreting styles help them develop more complex skills. Alongside, parallel exercises focus on describing objects and presenting their own work in writing, while guest speaker lectures offer exposure to other disciplines.

The sketches are a part of the S1 exercise- Sketching. The sketches are of a leather chair and a driveway, and involved developing an eye for proportions and perspective.

The work is the part of the S2 exercise- Freehand Drawing. The work on the right includes swatches made using pencil while the work on the right includes an assemblage rendered using one of the swatches technique from the work on the left.

The work is the part of the S2 exercise- Freehand Drawing and the S6 exercise- Color Theory. The work includes assemblages of subtracted forms in isometric and two- point perspective. The assemblages have also been rendered using the primary and neutral color scheme (the isometric view) and triad complementary color scheme (the perspective assemblage).

The work is the part of the S4 exercise- How Things Work. The sheet showcases a labelled exploded view of a hand cranked sharpener. The sheet also details the functions of each component for better understanding.

The work is from the S5 exercise- Deciphering Ordering Principles. The work on the left includes an analysis of the Villa Capra (The Rotunda) in terms of its organization. The work on the right includes includes examples of composition that are evident in our surroundings.

The work is from the S7 exercise- Interpreting Styles. The work on the right is a mind map that entails attributes associated with Marilyn Monroe that define her style. Using the information collected in the mind map, a movie poster was created to emulate the style associated with her. The mind map was created using Photoshop and InDesign softwares while the poster was made using the Autodesk Sketchbook application.

The work is from the T1 DR1 exercise- Digital Representation. The sheet on the top details various views of an Ipad device created using the AutoCAD software. The sheet on the bottom shows various view of a mobile phone created using the same software.

The work is part of the S3 exercise- Technical Drawing. The work on the top is a manually drafted sheet showing the plan, elevation, side views, and three dimensional views of a matchbox composition (where one box is tilted at an angle). The sheet on the bottom shows a similar composition with subtractions. This The sheet with the subtractions was created using the AutoCAD software.

The work is a part of the S3 exercise- Technical Drawing. The sheet shows the plan, elevation and side view and surface development of a truncated hexagonal prism. The sheet was created using the Auto CAD software.

The work is from the S9 exercise- Gauging Sizes. The sheet on the top shows a sectional view of a kitchen with the gauged and measured dimensions, with the measured dimensions being in the brackets and the gauged dimensions written using a black pen. The critical dimensions are written using a red pen for clarity. The sheet on the bottom is a sectional view of an urban street with the gauged dimensions written alongside.
