The Monsoon Semester of the CEPT Foundation Programme inculcates foundational design skills through sequential exercises focused on perfecting freehand and perspective drawing, visualizing and drawing complex compositions. Students learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and exploded views of complex objects; develop the skill of estimating sizes and begin to engage with anthropometrics. Ordering principles, colour theory, imaginative drawing and deciphering and interpreting styles help them develop more complex skills. Alongside, parallel exercises focus on describing objects and presenting their own work in writing, while guest speaker lectures offer exposure to other disciplines.

The image (top left) shows a collage made by overlapping various individual images, for architect Rem Koolhaas based on his personality traits. The images below show the process involved in making the collage. The image (right) shows a poster for a talk on Rem Koolhaas keeping in mind his personality and the colors he likes.

The image (top) shows a drawing of an isometric assemblage of 25 subtracted objects made during the freehand exercise. The image below shows the same assemblage colored using the triadic color scheme in the color theory exercise.

The images on the left show pixelation of an image of a bird obtained from google images made in a grid of 1.5cm by 1.5cm. The image on the right show a poster made for the fashion designer Issey Miyake which represents his works and the perfume line he launched.

The images on the right show plans, elevations and sections of a composition of three matchboxes placed along the three axes. They have been derived by taking projections from the plans.

The images on the top show surface development and orthographic projections of a pentagonal pyramid and a hinged hexagonal prism. The images below show the model of a pentagonal pyramid made using the surface development above.

The image (left) shows the drawing of a vegetable chopper in an isometric, exploded view with all its parts labelled and their working principle written. The images on the right show the process involved in achieving the final outcome.

The images on the top show front view and elevation drawings of various household objects drawn in 1:1 or 1:2 scale with their dimensions written. The images below show the doors and windows of the rooms in the house and indicate the sill and lintel level with their dimensions drawn in 1:20 scale.

The images show the section of a street in Mount Abu drawn in 1:50 scale with all the parts labelled and dimensions provided. It also highlights the objects which are in elevation and shows them in lighter line weight.

The image (top) shows a rendered sketch of an imaginary street drawn on the basis of a text written in the ROWC class. The images below show the process involved in achieving the final outcome.

The images show various sketches made during the course of the sketching classes.
