The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Through the exercise on building elements and materials the students will start to engage with existing buildings to decipher their building elements and materials and understand the sequence of construction. In the last exercise the students will go through the process of documenting an existing building and making a set of architectural drawings.

No Rulers, No Erasers - As a culmination of the skills learnt in Freehand Drawing, assemblage of subtracted solids as seen in isometric and perspective view was made. The assemblages were then filled in with different color palettes for understanding color theory.

Stairway To Modelmaking - Using hand drafted surface development sheet as reference model of subtracted cylinder was made.

Digital Drafting - Matchbox composition was drafted in various views using Auto-Cad software.

Few Loose Screws - A hand blender was opened up and all parts were drafted in an exploded view to study its internal mechanism.

Gauging In The Streets - Section of street elements was drawn freehand in a reduced scale by gauging dimensions using own body measurements.

Homework - Gauging the dimensions of various spaces of a house like the bathroom, sections and plans depicting the measurements in scale were drawn.

Parts Of A Building - Section model depicting construction materials using different tinted cardboards was made to understand building elements in depth.

Exploring Colors - A collage was made based on movie scenes from films of Director Quentin Tarantino to understand the general color palette used. Based on which, a simple graphic was made inspired by the recurring colors and elements observed.

My Neighborhood On Paper - Based on observations made at different times of the day an illustrated map showing density of traffic and activities in the area was prepared.

Sketch It Out - After exploring with different mediums like micron pens, ink kitta, and charcoal, imaginative sketch using alphabets and numbers in a distinct scenario was made.
