The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Through the exercise on building elements and materials the students will start to engage with existing buildings to decipher their building elements and materials and understand the sequence of construction. In the last exercise the students will go through the process of documenting an existing building and making a set of architectural drawings.

Using Different mediums like pens and charcoal, these two creative sketches were created by exploring different surfaces of the mediums with proper proportions and Light and shade.

These two sketches are made by making subtractions from forms and the sketch on the left is a composition of different subtracted forms and has been rendered with the stippling method.

These are technically correct drawing of plans, elevations and axonometric and isometric views of a composition consisting of three color coded matchboxes. Subtractions have been made in these sketches. The sheet at the bottom has sectionally cut views.

This is a model of a cylinder with subtractions made in it. It is made by the method of Surface Development by properly drafted plans and elevation of the cylinder.

This is an exploded axonometric view of all the parts of a hand chopper which explains the working and the details of every single part of the object.

These are the plans and elevation of a bedroom and a bathroom by carefully gauging and measuring the dimensions of the room and the furniture.

This is a model of a cut section of a wall section of a house with the different materials and elements named in the sketch.

These two assemblage sheets have been colored with primary + neutral and triad complementary color schemes respectfully.

This is a Graphical representation of the color palette and a collage of the works of the famous architect Geoffrey Bawa.

The first sheet is the explanation of the design principle of the Lloyd Lewis house made by F.L. Wright. The sheet on the right is the different principles shown using household objects and the sheet on the bottom is the explanation of rules of composition using tools and capturing suitable images.
