The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Through the exercise on building elements and materials the students will start to engage with existing buildings to decipher their building elements and materials and understand the sequence of construction. In the last exercise the students will go through the process of documenting an existing building and making a set of architectural drawings.

Compositions of 2D shapes drawn freehand in isometric view are displayed on the above half of the page. Whereas, on the bottom left of page is a cube developed in one-point perspective and next to it is an assemblage in two-point perspective.

Based on the color-coded matchbox model shown in the centre, its multiple views are drafted with first-projection method on left half side of this page. Whereas on the right half, the same model is drawn in two-point perspective.

Plan and elevation view of a cone are shown along with its surface development and the actual photographs of the model on right.

Three different views: top, front and side view of a side table and a toothpaste are drawn freehand on A5 size grid book pages.

As shown in the photograph on left, a section of a wall is cut through from the red line. Parts of this wall section are labelled as shown on right and is then represented in a 3D model.

Figure 1 and 2 show two different assemblages, each consisting of two separate color harmonies. While, figure 3 is an image from the web, whose pixelation is depicted in figure 4.

The collage on the left is based on the works of architect Geoffrey Bawa. After choosing a color palette from this collage, the same collage is graphically represented as shown on right. Alongwith it, a brief writeup is attached below.

The map exhibited is made using the information collected about the fitness activities happening in the Shyamal area of Ahmedabad.

Each of the four images attached are created individually using four different softwares: Photoshop, AutoCAD, InDesign and Illustrator.

The sketches attached here are made using various mediums such as crayons, ink and kitta, charcoal and markers.
