The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Through the exercise on building elements and materials the students will start to engage with existing buildings to decipher their building elements and materials and understand the sequence of construction. In the last exercise the students will go through the process of documenting an existing building and making a set of architectural drawings.

Outcomes of freehand drawing- an exercise to develop the basics of representing design ideas through drawings. The drawings and the renderings in the image are done freehand.

Outcomes of technical drawings- A more technical understanding about drawings and introduction to the basics of model making.

Outcomes of "How Things Work". The above image shows the steps involved in understanding the working principles of a piezo-electric gas lighter.

Outcomes of "Gauging Sizes". Learning to gauge dimensions and understanding the ergonomical aspects of surroundings.

Outcomes of "Building Elements and Materials". Above portrayed are the images of a wall section of my house. The one on the left depicts a 3-D isometric view whereas the one on the right is a physical model of the same constructed in a 1:20 scale. The materials have been differentiated with the use of different boards in the model. The building elements and their materials are also identified, on the 2-D section in the centre.

Outcomes of "Deciphering Ordering Principles". These are some of my works that aimed at understanding various ordering principles present in our surroundings and in the built spaces around us.

Outcomes of "Mapping and Data Representation". This is an abstract representation of my neighbourhood, activities prevalent in it and relative density of people at different places according to my research.

Outcomes of "Sketching". Portrayed above are some of my sketches exploring different mediums such as charcoal, pen, ink, etc.

Outcomes of "Digital Representation". Above depicted is a collage and a poster created digitally.

Outcomes of "Colour Theory". Depicted above are some of the results of an exercise that aimed at understanding the basics of colour theory both through physical and digital mediums. The image on the bottom left is a collage that aimed at understanding the works of Robert Venturi and the image on the bottom right is a graphical composition that depicts the colour palette of the former.
