The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it, the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Through the exercise on building elements and materials,

Geometry Explored Through Freehand Drawings These sheets of freehand drawings consist of a prism wireframe (complete/sectioned), subtracted cube solids, and a composition of various subtracted forms and wireframes. This exercise represents a unique exploration of shape, form and structure.

Technical Drawing - I Visualization and Exploration of representing 3D forms. The sheet above is drafted in autoCAD, it is drawings of matchbox composition in plan, elevation, and parallel projection with sections. The below sheet is the surface development of a hinged truncation of a hexagonal prism.

How things Work, an exploded view of a lever mortise tumbler lock, along with a series of working principle diagrams.

Building Elements and Materials The sheets are sections of buildings on the CEPT campus. Along with visualization of the sections, the materials and building elements used were identified.

Technical Drawing - II Floor plan and reflected ceiling plan of Namrata and Karuna.

Technical Drawing - II Site plan of Namrata and Karuna.

Technical Drawing - II Model of Namrata and Karuna. With lateral section across the model.

Varanasi Field Studio Plan and 60 Sections (building profiles) of Prahlad Ghat street. (Model)

Technical Drawing - I Surface development of frustum of cone, along with model of frustum of cone from surface development.

Freehand Drawing Above sheet - rendering of isometric composition by stippling and scribbling. Below sheet is composition of subtracted solids, planar and linear elements, and wireframes in one point perspective
