The Monsoon semester focuses on equipping students with various techniques to visualise, draw and represent. The students also start to engage with existing buildings to identify various building elements, basic construction materials and methods. They practise and work intensively to perfect their freehand drawing and perspective drawing, to visualize and draw complex compositions. They also learn to make technical drawings using orthographic projections, surface development and the exploded view of a complex object. A series of exercises in sketching will enable the students to sketch freely in order to observe, document, imagine and improvise. The exercise on gauging sizes will develop the habit of estimating sizes using one’s body and through it, the students will begin to engage with the concept of anthropometrics. Building elements and Materials- The goal of this activity is to recognize various elements through a wall section, such as a brick wall, window frame, or flooring, and their appropriate representations.

Mystic Tales of Two Ghats - Field Studio Varanasi- Our study compares the two ghats named Shitala Ghat and Dasashwamedh Ghat located on the banks of river Ganga at Varanasi.

Mystic Tales of Two Ghats - Field Studio Varanasi- The study compares the two ghats on the basis of the activities and the space of the ghats and mainly on comparing them with the reference of the Shitala Mata temple located at both the ghats.

Mystic Tales of Two Ghats - Field Studio Varanasi- This study topic is interesting as both the ghats are named after the Shitala Mata temple, yet it is said that the Goddess at the Dasashwamedh Ghat is a ‘Swayambhu’ Goddess which means self-existing Goddess but in contrast the temple at the Shitala Ghat is man-made.
