TThe CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

Drawing forms like cubes, cuboids ,pyramids and cylinders,etc. with subtractions was a major part of the free hand exercise.

Surface development and lettering were done as part of the module of technical drawing, which introduced the concept of drafting with drawing tools.

Model making consisted of making wide range of models from cylinder, cone, icosahedron and cube to microconcrete cube with subtraction and soma cube consisting of 27 individual small cubes.

Material exploration consisted of exploring different materials in and around us, and then using the knowledge gained by manipulating the material for finally making a model which exhibits the properties of the material PVC.

This exercise consisted of drafting the exploded view of the different parts of the cycle bell in the order in which the parts are assembled, and then writing the working mechanism of the bell.

Measurement of street, open space, and objects, etc. were gauged by using human body as a measuring device.

Through this exercise, better understanding of rules of organization, visual composition and visual perception were gained by sticking cutouts of shapes to show different rules, as well as by making 3D compositions, and paintings.

Color theory gave an insight about the different color schemes and existence of different shades and tints of the same color whose knowledge was imbibed through the pixelation exercise.

This exercise included exploring different fonts, and using the knowledge thus gained for identifying fonts, and then manipulating and playing with the letters to produce meaningful results.

The main intent of this exercise was to decipher the architectural style followed by Ar.Hassan Fathy, and then showcase this style through a mindmap, collage and a poster.
