TThe CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

By combining and using what was learnt about lines, shapes and basic geometric forms, I made a freehand assemblage of 25 forms.

Models of a cone and subtracted cube were made using surface development. Also, different views of a match box composition were technically represented.

To understand properties of different materials, I made models from aerofoam, terracotta clay, ivory paper and buff board. Every model was a reflection of the skills I developed at each stage. This took me back to the model of the assemblage I had made. After having worked with a variety of materials, I could draw a comparison between the same and it gave me a better understanding of material properties. I now know which material is better suited for specific purposes.

The first step of understanding how a hand-held sewing machine works involved freehand drawings of each part of the dismantled machine in 2D. Then, technically represented each part in 3D to get an idea of its assembly.

This assembly gives an idea about how every part of the hand-held sewing machine is fixed using screws and rivets. The materials used in making the machine have also been mentioned.

Gauged drawings of rooms, street, open spaces and objects.

Principles of visual organization were depicted by composing basic geometric shapes in different ways.

A small area of a picture was pixelated and was recreated by mixing colors. While making a monochrome montage, an understanding of how different colors are used to evoke different emotions was developed.

Observational drawing included working with different mediums such as graphite, ink and charcoal.

Working with different softwares interested me the most. A multi-view representation of an assemblage of 14 forms was created using SketchUp 3D.
