TThe CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

This module encouraged us to study, interpret, and understand the design style of the allocated Artist/Designer/Architect and create a visual graphic poster inspired by their style. The above posters are my interpretation of Anish Kapoor, Artist and Sculptor's design style.

Typeface is a crucial part of the visual identity of a brand. The sheets prepared deconstruct the letters of the font - Verlag, to understand its key features that distinguish the font from the rest and then compose them in a manner to identify them using the deciphered features. The Typewalk helped understand the purpose, intention and meaning of a brand manifested through its chosen typeface.

The above module aimed at exploring the properties and nature of a variety of material categorized into 5 categories- natural, ceramic, metal, composite and polymer. Shortlisting 3out of them, acrylic stainless steel and wax, a series of experiments were conducted on the 3 chosen materials to understand its physical and chemical properties. Acylic- chosen final material out of the three was then used to create an abstract model inspired by a fire pit, using the techniques used for experimentation earlier. The acrylic model uses 'grooves' as means of joinery.

The module focused on rendering the skill of model making using different techniques and methods on the most commonly used materials. The materials used in the Soma Cube are - Balsa Wood, Cork. The cast of the Concrete Subtracted Cube was made out of Styrofoam. Terracotta clay was used for sculpting the Sun Tile and Onion replica model. the geometric forms were constructed using grey and white card sheets.

The sheets showcase the reverse engineering of a Spray Gun to understand its form, purpose of the material used for various parts and its working mechanism.

Color theory enhanced our knowledge on Color Harmonies. The pixelated grid of the fruit composition is a play of hues, tints, tones and shades of primary colors. The monochromatic montage brings out the shades of red in use around us. The pixelated grid was rendered in the medium of Poster colors.

Principles guiding the rules of aesthetic and organization in design, were introduced through this module. The initial two sheets were to capture our observation of the rules of visual organization and perception in the nature and our surroundings. The subsequent sheets are student's interpretation of the rules represented through an arrangement of cut out shapes in a 2D as well as 3D space. Representation of Gestalt Principles- Closure and Figure and Ground, use ink as a medium of rendering.

Observational Drawing helped develop an eye for detail and prominent features that make the sketched form distinguishable. The module allowed us to practice detail and quick sketching in mediums apart from pencil rendering like charcoal, micron an ink.

Technical Drawing introduced us to the skill of drafting and helped enhance our visualization skills. The models made were used as a reference to compose its multi-views onto the sheet and visualize cut plans and sections through it. The sheets contain, plan, section, elevation and oblique drafted drawings. The last sheet was composed using Sketch Up as a digital medium.

This module helped us understand the physical expanse of sizes gauged using our body as a tool of measurement. The sheets contain gauged plan and sectional drawings of the North Canteen at CEPT University. The other sheets are however gauged drawings of bedroom and objects of daily use found in these spaces.
