TThe CEPT Foundation Programme studio is an introduction for students fresh out of school to the rigor and work habits required by an undergraduate degree at CEPT University. The studio is conceptualized as a series of sequentially planned exercises, through which students develop skills and abilities, which are then deployed to address increasingly complex problems falling in four broad categories: visualize and draw, make and learn, anayse and interpret and conceptualise and represent. The exercises are designed to provide foundational skills for students across disciplines at CEPT, between which they maintain a balance. They also reflect an understanding that at the foundation level, these skills overlap to a large extent, and a varied array is of benefit to all students. The studio is taught through intensive 1–2 week long modules, focusing on a particular skill or ability, and a process that emphasizes ongoing feedback in addition to expert faculty lectures.

Freehand drawing In this section, one can see how I started my foundation by drawing lines without the use of a ruler. I learnt how to use these lines to draw various shapes and forms. During the process of drawing, I would try to find ways to make the process as simple as possible.

Technical drawing In this section, one can see the product of drawing with accuracy. Through this, I learnt how to draw shapes and forms with precision using different tools such as triangular scale for measurement, parallel bar for drawing straight horizontal lines and set square for vertical lines.

Deciphering styles In this section, you can see two posters that had been made by deciphering M.F. Husain's art style.

Deciphering typefaces In this section, I deciphered and understood the geometry of the above three letters. The font of these letters is Georgia, which is a serif font. In this exercise, I studied different fonts and how they are used in different settings.

Model making Through the model making module, I learnt how to make various forms using different material such as card paper, clay, styrofoam, cement etc. With knowledge of the different materials, I made a soma cube, a cement cube with various subtractions and an icosahedron, using simple surface development.

How things work In this module, I took apart a car jack to study how the car jack works. In the larger sheet, one can see the exploded view of the car jack and each part is labelled with its function written underneath the name of each part.

Ordering principles In this module, I studied the different design principles and applied them using shapes cut out from black paper. or using black paint. I also analyzed the applications of these principles in the real world.

Gauging sizes In this module, we gauged and measured different spaces using body measurements, such as paces, height, distance between thumb and index, etc. Through this exercise, I learnt how to measure any space without the use of measuring tools.
