Regionalism in architecture is the pre-eminent discourse that primarily deals with the built environment in terms of its relationship with the locale or the region. Regionalism is a theory, habit, attitude, way of life, strategy and concept. The key idea of regionalism is some form of resistance against the unifying forces of globalisation and standardisation. A global force can destroy local specificities and threaten the sense of being of an idiosyncratic culture.
This Thesis aims to investigate the techniques used by architects to regionalise their built form in the rich and varied landscape of Rajasthan. The goal is to dispel the paradox that Paul Ricouver articulated in his book “History and Truth” about advancing modernity while also returning to the roots.
