“A large variety of affordances must be offered to create a landscape of possibilities for a multiplicity of bodies” (Erik and Ronald Rietveld, 2018).
The design of a built environment can alter the way residents feel, perceive, behave and interact. However, this learning is rarely taken into consideration by designers while creating these spaces in which our lives unfold. Designers should study previously built housing projects to understand the positives, negatives and scope of improvement to create a meaningful community for people to reside in. The designed built environment should incorporate multiple affordances that will help the residents to have a sense of belonging and identity and a healthy community with spaces that encourage social interaction.
