In the realm of architectural design, the incorporation of kinetic elements has, over the past few decades, primarily manifested in façade design, fenestration, or standalone installations within spaces. While these applications have showcased the aesthetic and interactive potential of kinetic architecture, an untapped opportunity exists to elevate this concept beyond its conventional uses. This research endeavors to redefine the role of kinetic architecture by positioning it as a transformative space-making tool.
The DRP specifically focuses on the development of a framework of analysis for kinetic building elements through the lens of spatial transformation, mechanism analysis, and constructability of vertical kinetic surfaces.
