The escalating global phenomenon of urbanization has significantly altered cities' physical and environmental characteristics, leading to the development of Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) as a critical urban challenge.
This research study focuses on formulating solutions that integrate vegetation at a building level considering factors of orientation and functionality for the urban fabric of Ahmedabad. It also establishes suggestive relations between the physical characteristics of plant form and their efficacy in providing solar radiation protection through shading for a building surface. To further aid architects and designers in choosing appropriate plant species based on parameters of suitable building surface, light conditions and water requirements, a tool consisting of a database of 200+ plants that grow in Ahmedabad is developed to conclude the research.
