Most civilizations have developed around water sources, and rapid urban expansion has led to the overuse of freshwater resources. In India, temple tanks historically served as vital systems for water storage, ritual use, and social gatherings, reflecting both architectural ingenuity and cultural values. While awareness of their significance is growing, architectural documentation and contextual understanding remain limited. This research aims to compare temple tanks in two geographically distinct Indian regions, analysing their design through geographic and socio-cultural lenses. By documenting lesser-studied examples, this study contributes to preserving temple tanks and deepening understanding of their environmental and cultural relevance.
