Daylighting is often integrated into a building as an architectural statement and for energy savings. In current scenario around 30%-40% of total electricity is used for lighting in commercial and residential buildings. Multistorey commercial buildings like offices, retail, schools, banks, hospitality, etc. have large floor plates where there are spaces in core having very less or no access to natural light. For those spaces artificial lighting is only option, resulting in lighting energy consumption during daytime. Considering the low efficiency of conventional electric lights and the increasing number of users, the rate of power consumption for illumination is continuously increasing. The research evaluates photometric performance and energy saving potential system of Fiber Optic Daylighting (FOD) System.
