The use of air conditioning systems for comfort and space cooling is a major driving factor for the rising energy demand, accounting for nearly 10% of all the global electricity consumption today. The direct evaporative cooling system is an energy-efficient alternative to conventional vapour compression-based cooling systems, particularly in hot and dry climates. The study aims to explore the potential for enhancing the comfort hours offered by the DEC system, through the development of advanced control algorithms. The study follows a novel approach to using the experimental data to generate characteristic performance curves for the DEC system through experiments in a controlled environment, as opposed to assuming fixed saturation efficiency for simulations for control algorithms.
