This Directed Research Project aims to look into the current construction waste management systems used at real estate construction sites in highly urbanized cities like Ahmedabad. Cities are expanding at a quicker rate, increasing the need for infrastructure and housing. With the amount of building activity in India, it is critical to quantify the construction waste created and analyze the waste management procedures required to offer a greener construction approach. A proper waste management process is hardly seen at any real estate construction site. The different processes including in waste management like collection, segregation, and disposal are overlooked and not implemented properly. The problems for waste management implementation need to be observed at the site level to identify areas for improvement. The research aims to develop appropriate policies and effective measures to improve the system. The scope of the research is to study the construction waste management system in real estate construction sites in Ahmedabad, understand the parameters affecting the process, and identify areas of improvement in the system. To understand the current waste management system a questionnaire survey of sites all over Ahmedabad was done. The data was collected and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods. Based on the analysis a policy framework was prepared to serve as a guide for the implementation of waste management on construction sites.
