Today, roads play some sort of role in everyone's life. We are all users of the road in some way. Driving is the predominant form of transportation in India. The country's last-mile connectivity has increased thanks to roads and transit systems, which has facilitated economic growth. On the other hand, concerns about the nation's road upkeep, operation, and safety issues are growing. The purpose of the study is to ascertain how commercial operations and maintenance on public roads function as well as if any safety features are present along the section of the road that is now subject to such operations and maintenance. The study also seeks to comprehend the factors that lead to highway operations and maintenance from the perspective of road safety professionals. In order to understand their issues with various components of the road, the study also involves the users of national roads. Physical surveys of the toll booths and questionnaires given to various IE and Assistant Engineers of various PIUs were used to obtain the data. The data of the operations and maintenance of various national highways includes various things like (Toll operations, maintenance of highways, tress, openings on roads, responsibilities of concessionaries/contractor) and accident data of fatal accidents occurred. A questionnaire survey was also conducted to understand the perspective of consultants and contractors in order to identify the primary causes of operations and maintenance of highway and safety issues in the operation and maintenance of highway.
