Lime mortar and plaster were widely used throughout history, but the need for rapid construction with a more straightforward application of cement majorly led to downfall of lime. Lime has numerous advantages, such as durability, permeability, moisture buffering, and thermal insulation. These properties make lime a better sustainable option than cement. These properties can further be enhanced by use additives. future scope of research such as economical comparison are suggested and recommendations are made on the best applications of lime in current construction practices along with the necessary infrastructure needed to promote lime as an alternative to cement.
