The field of interior design has recently experienced a surge in the trend of manufacturing elements offsite and assembling them on-site. This shift has led to the forming of a collaborative relationship between the industry and interior design. Instead of relying on large-scale manufacturers that offer limited control over the design, the field is turning towards smaller industries, providing greater opportunities for customisation. The research aims to analyse the role of these small-scale industries in producing elements through assembly-based construction while allowing for flexibility in customisation. It explores the concept of design for manufacture and assembly to study industries such as metal fabrication and wooden products, further examining their collaboration within the field of interior design.
