The paper is part of the SAAR program under which the project “Restoration of Surat Castle” is critically reviewed. The paper discusses the concept of smart heritage under the Smart Cities Mission. It discusses a detailed research design, analytical tools, research matrix and the entirety of the project followed by analysis based on various stakeholders’ interviews and economic impact surveys. It discusses the project's current and future impact assessment based on five impact domains: value addition, physical and spatial, economic, socio-cultural, and tourism impact. Based on the findings from the analysis, challenges are identified and recommendations are suggested.
