The study investigates various causes for non-functional decentralized wastewater treatment plants in low-income communities of housing schemes i.e., ISSR (In-Situ Slum Redevelopment) and AHP (Affordable Housing Project). Decentralized wastewater treatment plants are found to reduce the burden on city-level sewerage networks while reducing the demanded strain on the portable source of water supply i.e., municipal supply & groundwater resources. The study attempts to identify an operationally sustainable and technically feasible model which makes the decentralized wastewater treatment plants installed in low-income communities functional.
