Cities are essential players in the context of climate change and resilience. On the one side, Urban metropolitan areas have significantly contributed to climate change. As a result of urbanisation, forests, green open space, and agricultural fields in urban regions have changed into roads, railways, industrial, commercial and residential development. The rise in urbanisation has put a strain on natural resources and caused disruptions in urban ecosystems. India is experiencing an extraordinary spike in catastrophic weather events Like droughts, cyclones, forest fires, increased temperatures, and severe storms, which are related to climate change, caused by greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels and aerosols, as well as changes in land use and land cover. There is a great need for anthropogenic environmental alteration in response to climate and weather changes over time and the creation of sustainable solutions. There is a need to consider our cities from the viewpoint of Blue-green Infrastructure. To achieve that, this is an attempt to study the concept of Blue-green Infrastructure in the context of Indian cities, focusing on Ahmedabad city. Ahmedabad is a city where blue and green infrastructure decreases with the increasing urban sprawl. This study focuses on understanding the concept of blue and green infrastructure, benefits, elements, drivers, and barriers to implementing blue and green infrastructure. This study identifies possible solutions to overcome the barriers to implementing blue and green infrastructure. All these strategies will help improve the condition of the blue-green infrastructure in the northwest zone.
