Kochi city, the highest per capita contributor to the state has seen devasting impacts of flood for years now since its 1924 flood. Flood risk reduction attempts that are seen currently in the city are through devising frameworks, indexes, vulnerability mapping, and zoning as well as through identification of community participation that helped in emergency responses. This research fills the gaps in assessing the existing and newly developing mitigation measures in the study area for its functionality and management for flood risk reduction. Also, the locally practiced adaption measures are found through this research. The recommendations intend to amplify these local adaptation measures through statutory mechanisms and increase efficiency in risk management through the locally contextualized Sus-Keralam (Susthira Keralam) FIRMM (Flood Information and Risk Management Monitoring) Platform designed through this research.
