This report examines the implementation and allocation of SEWS (socially and economically weaker sections) and Green Space and Plots in the Eastern regions of Ahmedabad city and identifies disparities between the proposed and on-ground status of these plots. The average appropriation of SEWS plots in the East is 15% lower than in the West, with on-ground compliance 18% lower. The average appropriation of green space plots in the East is 4% lower, with on-ground compliance 29% lower. The report suggests several recommendations for improving on-ground compliance of appropriated plots, including a hierarchy of greens in each TP scheme, developing plots appropriated as open spaces as green space, and using green space plots as a revenue source. For SEWS plots, recommendations include considering public transport while proposing plots, distributing plots well throughout the city, and reconsidering percentage appropriation with newer construction techniques. The report concludes that effective planning and implementation strategies are needed to ensure equitable allocation and effective enforcement of appropriated plots in both regions, especially in the East. This study highlights the importance of equitable allocation and effective enforcement of appropriated plots for better living conditions for residents, with wider implications for urban planning and development in cities.
