The Sidis of Ahmedabad, an African-origin community in India, embody a fusion of East African and Indian cultural elements, rooted in migrations dating back to the 7th century. Renowned for their architectural contributions, such as the iconic Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, and cultural practices like the Dhamaal dance and Urs festivals, the Sidis maintain a strong heritage. This paper explores their customs, traditions, gender dynamics, and the pivotal role of women in religious practices. Employing archival research and interviews, it examines their power structures and relationships with other communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of their unique identity and legacy.
