This research takes a closer look at the ongoing decline of historic urban centres across Indian cities, with a special focus on the walled city of Ahmedabad. Although the area boasts a rich heritage and has earned UNESCO recognition, the growing number of tourists and years of neglect have resulted in traffic congestion, encroachments, and deteriorating infrastructure. The project sets out to breathe new life into a chowk along the Heritage Walk through placemaking and thoughtful, context-sensitive design. It envisions heritage-conscious improvements in movement, accessibility, vending, parking, and utilities, aiming to preserve the cultural charm of the space while meeting the everyday needs of the community and promoting sustainable tourism.
